As first pictures of the youngest to be killed in America’s second-largest mass shooting were released, families paid heartwrenching tribute to the children who never stood a chance.Aged just six and seven years old, eight boys and 12 girls were brutally gunned down in a moment of madness that also claimed the lives of seven adults, including the killer’s mother.

As authorities battled for answers, more detail emerged of the terrifying final moments for those slain, amid vows not to let the massacre define the families forever changed by it.It may have been located in a close-knit and quiet community, but Sandy Hook Elementary School had far wider ties..
